Prince George anglers can now enjoy a great new fishing opportunity at Shane Lake in the heart of the city thanks to the work of the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) and the Northern Sport Fishing Task Force and the Ministry of Environment.
“This stocking program creates a new fishing location at Shane Lake in Forests for the World, providing anglers and families another great place to experience a B.C. fishing adventure," said Sean Simmons, Chair of the Task Force.
Working in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and FFSBC, the Task Force developed a one-year trial stocking program for Shane Lake. The program released 3,000 “catchable” sized rainbow trout that will allow the community to enjoy fishing at the lake immediately.
Children under the age of 16 can fish for free, and Shane Lake is well suited to angling with inexpensive fishing gear. Adults can purchase a freshwater licence at their local tackle shop or buy one on-line at http://www.fishing.gov.bc.ca/.
