The Psychology of 'Fishing Man'
Does fishing reduce stress? Dr. Paul Quinnett, psychologist and author of several books on angling, certainly thinks so.
About Us
Discover Fishing BC is a province-wide initiative by the British Columbia Sport Fishing Steering Committee to increase participation in freshwater and saltwater fishing in BC.
Fishing is an important recreational and economic activity in British Columbia - about 600,000 licensed anglers spend over $1 billion on sport fishing in the province every year.
However, participation in recreational fishing here has declined by 15% over the past 20 years, due to a combination of social, demographic and environmental changes.
"Discover Fishing BC" is part of a 10-year angling marketing plan developed by the Sport Fishing Steering Committee to reverse the decline in recreational fishing, protect the economic benefit fishing brings to the province, and boost angling by 30% by 2017.
Many of the tactics we have developed in this marketing plan provide opportunities for government and non-government organizations to become involved. Read the Executive Summary of the plan at Go Fish BC or contact us.

Project Lead
Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC
The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC was created in March of 2003 as an independent non-profit organization with a mandate to conserve and enhance the freshwater fish resources of British Columbia for the benefit of the public. The Society works in partnership with the provincial government to deliver fish stocking program and provide conservation fish culture services that support steelhead and sturgeon recovery programs.
The Society is also responsible for the promotion and marketing of freshwater fishing in the province. In 2007, we finalized a 10-year Angling Marketing Plan in partnership with the B.C. Ministry of Environment and non-government angling organizations; a dedicated staff has begun implementation.
The Society has three sources of funding: revenue from freshwater angler licence sales; revenue from the Ministry of Environment for conservation and restoration work; and revenue from partnership agreements and contracts with third parties.

Discover Fishing BC recognizes the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund and anglers, hunters, trappers and guides who contribute to the fund, for making a significant financial contribution to support the Angling Market Development Plan. Without such support, this project would not have been possible.
